Question 13 of 13
Parent/Carer Questions:
A friendly note to Parents and Carers:
The HSC is a double-edged sword for a lot of families because it can bring out the best and the worst in some of us.
We know that environment and story plays a significant role in a student's academic performance.
This is true for:
1) The stories they tell themselves about what they are capable of @school (and anywhere else they find themselves), as well as;
2) The stories those closest to them tell about them - to them (and to others) willing to listen.
Our opinions about: what our kids look, sound, act and feel; and what they should do, what they could do and how it will all turn out 'if', have no place in HSC preparations UNLESS they are positive and aim to bolster rather than motivate through fear of disappointment, rejection, and not living up to 'expectations' framed as the guise of 'their potential'.
At DMA Mentoring, we are dedicated to nurturing students into scholars who have a strong self belief, value discipline (as that's what sets the elite apart from the could have beens) and who wish to smile their way through the HSC journey.
We have seen the best and worst of 'well-intentioned' Parents and Carers 'supporting' their children @school and @uni.
And so far... we haven't met a parent/carer yet who isn't motivated by love and the desire for their child to have the best.
BUT we also know, it makes it more difficult for the student to develop their academic muscles with a smile when they feel they have to manage school, tutoring as well as Parent/Carer expectations and additional timetables from the 'home-front'.
So... as parents ourselves - we get it.
That's why our memberships comprise 2 user ID's - 1 for the student and 1 for a Parents/Carers
so they too (if they would like to) learn the content, and adopt the processes and practice of helping students develop the discipline of mental fitness for academic success.
We know, when we minimise the fear, from pressure placed on student shoulders inadvertently @home, @school and @play in the wider community, we enable our DMA Scholars and their families to SMILE THEIR WAY THROUGH THE HSC.
So that being the case:
1. What do you think your child needs to succeed in HSC 2025?
2. What does your child need to do in the HSC to be a success this time next year...?
NB: We treat our HSC students like young adults. Which means they are responsible for turning up, tuning in and completing set tasks and challenges. No refunds are given for students enrolled but who fail to show or participate.
If you have a reluctant HSC student we suggest calling us directly on 0404 849 115 (during business hours Monday -Friday), to discuss strategies to motivate them towards positive engagement with the HSC 2025 process.
